all about trek
Manteca Stake Pioneer Trek is sponsored and supported by the Manteca California Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Our trek theme this year is “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 and in alignment with the Church's youth theme for 2023.
Our theme art work was created by Abby Chapman.

All youth turning 14+ in 2023, including graduating seniors, are invited (and strongly encouraged) to participate. Stake YM/YW Leaders and support personnel are also invited.
WHAT
3-day Handcart Trek, covering about 12 miles. We will be divided into “families” and pioneer dress is encouraged. The trek experience includes historic pioneer games, singing, an old fashioned Hoedown, firesides, pioneer reenactments and other meaningful activities.
WHEN
We will be leaving at 7am on Thursday, July 13, 2023 for our trek and returning on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at approximately 4 pm. We will meet at the Manteca Stake Center (Northland Building) for departure and return.
WHERE
Trek will take place about 45 miles east of Jackson on highway 88 and about one mile north on the Mormon Emigrant Trail. It is also about 25 miles south of Sly Park on the Mormon Emigrant Trail. Elevation is about 7300 feet.
WHY
Trek to strengthen our faith in Christ and love for our Heavenly Father
Trek to experience and develop appreciation for some of the sacrifices and hardships of the early Church pioneers, including those of the handcart companies and to discover that we can have that same strength and faith
Trek to learn to serve others, make friends, and as a means of sharing the Gospel
Trek to gain appreciation for our immediate and extended families and our ancestors
HOW
Prepare for trek spiritually by developing spiritual habits that will bring you closer to Heavenly Father, such as scripture study, prayer and personal righteousness.
Prepare physically by obeying the Word of Wisdom, eating healthy food, exercising regularly, and getting sufficient rest before the trek.
Study about your ancestors. Prepare and take a family name to the temple.
Learn about the handcart pioneers. Prepare to share a story that increased your testimony.
